East Farms attends Tunxis Hose Annual Parade & Carnival
July 15, 2008
Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 held its 115th Anniversary Parade and Carnival on Saturday July 12, 2008.
Several members worked on the departments' apparatus for the entire week prior to the parade getting it cleaned, inside and out detailing Engine-Tanker 9, Engine 10 and Medic 11 to participate.
Just as the parade was about to kick off, the department was summoned for a medical call while covering for the hosts. Engine 10 was sent to handle. Likely not to make it back before the start of the parade Chief Nelson instructed the crew not to return to the line of march and good thing as just as the Engine was returning, another medical call was dispatched. As Engine 10 went racing off to handle, the remainder of the department and apparatus stepped in to the line of march and began their trip through Unionville.
The Department was greeted by enormous cheers in the reviewing stand and throughout the parade route. We received numerous compliments with a large majority of people taking pictures of us and our apparatus.
The evening was capped off around 9:30 pm with the presentation of Trophies.
During the awards presentation, the East Farms Volunteers came away with two trophies:
**Best Appearing Company in Jackets
**Best Appearing Engine or Engine Tanker for ET9
The officers and members would like to congratulate Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 on another wonderful carnival and parade. We wish them continued success in the years to come.
