2017 EFVFD Holiday Party and Awards Dinner

The East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Holiday Party and Awards Banquet on December 9, 2017 at Farmington Gardens.  The evening began with a blessing from our chaplain the Reverend George Roberts, a welcome from Holiday Party Chairman Nick Kimball and an overview of the past year from Chief Russell Nelson.  Chief John Nelson was recognized for being the Town of Farmington’s 2017 Firefighter of the Year. 

Members recognized for passing probation during 2017 included FF Brandon Klett, FF Raymond Govargiz, FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis, FF Breanna Johnson and FF/EMT Pawel Wrobleski.  Years of service pins were awarded to FF/EMT William Caiaze for five years, FF/EMT Nick Kimball for ten years, FF Keith Haley for twenty-five years, and Chief Russell Nelson for thirty years.  Fifteen new members joined EFVFD during 2017. 

During the past year, EFVFD responded to 1,374 calls, of which 943 were EMS calls. Awards for Top Responder to Fire Calls – Captain Matthew Czlapinski and Top Responder to Medical Calls –  FF/EMT Gary Petersen were given.  Certificates of Excellence were awarded to the following members who responded to more than 25% of the Department’s calls:  Chief Russell Nelson, Captain Matthew Czlapinski, Lieutenant Jesse Garrard, EMS Coordinator James Moynihan, Chief John Nelson, FF/EMT Keith Orr, FF/EMT Gary Petersen, FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis, FF Frank Duncan and FF Patrick Malchar. 

FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis, FF/EMT Pawel Wroblewski and FF/EMT Szymon Stopka were recognized as the Department’s newest EMT’s.  CPR Save pins were awarded to the following members who were part of a team that achieved CPR saves during 2017:  career FF’s/EMT’s Dennis Frazeo, Kevin Moriarty and George Sticca, and Chief Russell Nelson in February 2017; career FF/EMT Dennis Frazeo and FF/EMT Jadin James Nov. 3, 2017; career FF/EMT George Sticca and FF/EMT Jadin James, FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis and FF Frank Duncan in November 2017. 

Other awards presented that evening included: Rookie Firefighter of the Year – FF Frank Duncan; Rookie EMT of the Year – FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis; Most Improved Firefighter – Lt. Jesse Garrard; Most Improved EMT – Lt. Jesse Garrard; Best Use of Technical Skills – FF Patrick Malchar; Best Use of Medical Skills – FF/EMT Mark DeGrandis; Part-time FF of the Year – FF Patrick Malchar; Achievement Award – Capt. Matthew Czlapinski; Chief’s Award – FF/EMT Brian Nelson; Petersen Award – FF/EMT Bonnie Sudell; Administrative Member of the Year – FF Keith Haley; EMT of the Year – FF/EMT Jadin James and Firefighter of the Year – Capt. Matthew Czlapinski.
