About Us

The East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1944 and is one of three main fire departments within the Town of Farmington. We are located on the East Side of Farmington at 94 South Road abutting Interstate 84. Our fire district runs roughly from the West Hartford town-line to the east, New Britain town-line to the south, Avon town-line to the north, and Farmington Ave, and Colt Highway to the west. The district is a mix of both residential and commercial properties. Some notable landmarks that we protect and serve are West Farms Mall, Interstate 84 and Route 9, several major hotels including Homewood Suites, Extended Stay Deluxe and the Hampton Inn. A growing contingent of medical office buildings and several assisted living and/or age restricted housing developments as well as typical residential neighborhoods complete our district.

East Farms Station houses three apparatus – Engine Tanker 9, Engine 10 and Medic 11, along with two water rescue boats – an Avon Rescue Boat and a V Bottom Aluminum Boat.  Although predominantly a volunteer fire department, we are supplemented by three (3) career fire fighters from 6 am to 5 pm when a majority of our fire fighters are gainfully employed and unable to respond to emergencies. Our volunteer membership is lead by eight (8) elected Line Officers and four (4) Social Officers.

As first responders a large majority of our call volume is for the care of the sick and injured. In 2021, the Department responded to 1,210 calls for assistance of which 71% or 878 calls were for emergency medical care. In addition to medical emergencies we also provide fire, rescue, limited hazardous materials mitigation and miscellaneous other service calls.

Most importantly each of our members – both career and volunteer – attends and participates in rigorous training, maintaining the highest standards of qualification and certification. When we are not training or responding to emergencies, we are giving back to the community in other ways such as conducting Fire Prevention Education Programs, sponsoring local Farmington Youth Baseball Programs, supporting the Farmington Food Pantry, and more.
